Using our progressive curriculum, staff focus on the whole player, teaching respect, teamwork and responsibility. During the Chemical Engineering classes, students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine various mixtures and solutions with different chemical properties. They develop solutions to clean up oil spill, synthesize their own rocket fuel, and investigate the secrets behind color pigmentation.

The Annual Confucius Speech & Culture contest will be held on May 6, 2017.  To help our students improve their skills and support their preparation for the contests, we will host intensive training workshops for students who will participate in the contests.

Level One: Basics Students will learn the basic controls of the game such as how to move, mine, build, craft, and defend. Depending on the session students will learn how to build basic structures such as houses or castles. Students will also be able to join with other classmates in a fun and safe environment where they can learn to work together to accomplish a task.

Level Two: Redstone Students will learn how to further their crafting expertise and also how to farm in minecraft. Also students in this session will also learn how to build basic circuits using the included redstone Mechanics of minecraft. Students will also be able to join with other classmates in a fun and safe environment where they can learn to work together to accomplish a task.

Level Three: NPC Creation Students will learn how to interact with and even build their own custom NPC (Non-player characters. Students in this session will program and create a NPC using an ingame feature to make a character of their design. Students will also be able to join with other classmates in a fun and safe environment where they can learn to work together to accomplish a task.

Level Four: Minecraft Mod Design: Students will learn how to build and interact with a mod of their creation. They will program and create textures for their mod and can keep the mod for later to show their friends! Students will also be able to join with other classmates in a fun and safe environment where they can learn to work together to accomplish a task.

Lepao Building Blocks Class is for children who love to build and create! Invented by German Engineer Dr. Peter Laws over 60 years ago, Lepao’s unique interlocking blocks offer a creative and logical way to construct models.

The blocks feature different sizes and shapes that include A shape, H shape, pipes, window panels and other parts that invite children to be creative with building. Advanced classes using gears and mechanical power gears class will be provided as the program continue.

Jump start your child’s STEAM education with Coding with Kids’ Little Coders class! Students will develop their computational thinking skills and build their own creative programs. Our curriculum combines a blend of fun activities – both “on-screen” and “off-screen” – to keep students engaged and excited about coding. This class will give students a strong foundation on coding basics, such as loops and conditionals, that can be built upon in our other classes. Kids will be introduced to these programming fundamentals in a variety of ways appropriate for this age group, from coding puzzles and board games to hands-on programming using online drag-and-drop tools, such as Scratch (scratch.mit.edu).

Do you play games and wonder how they are created? Would you like to build your own computer programs? Come learn how at the Coding with Kids Academy! In this fun after-school class, BEGINNERS will be introduced to the core concepts of computer programming, including loops, conditionals and variables. INTERMEDIATE students will move on to more advanced concepts, such as nested conditionals and functions with parameters. Using the Scratch development environment, you will learn how to create a variety of programs, from simple animations to multi-level games. With new projects each session, you will be able to express your creativity and advance as a coder!

This class will teach  students to put together basic single component electrical circuits, learn about analog and digital, input and output, basic programming concepts, practice very basic Serial communication, and briefly cover basic virtual prototyping. It  is truly designed with the beginner in mind and serves as a great introduction to the world of physical computing.

Wu Shu means “martial arts” in Chinese, and has its origins in China for thousands of years.  Wu Shu is the current national sport in China and the many styles of traditional Wushu have been standardized into a unified curriculum within the last century.  Jet Li, Jackie Chan & Donnie Yen are some of the most high profile Wushu practitioners seen in Hollywood.  HCCS Wushu classes will emphasize the learning of martial arts movement without contact or fighting and focus on improving strength, coordination, focus & confidence in each student.

Wushu classes will cover:

2) Wushu Basics
3) Introductory Wushu Forms
4) Exercise & Conditioning
5) Martial Arts Ethics

Hosted by Summit WuShu Academy, classes will be overseen by Sifu Phillip Dang, former US Wushu Team member from 2003-2013 and former University of Oregon Wushu coach from 2002-2006.
