Get them started early! The Little Coders class provides young students with the basics of computational thinking skills, such as loops and conditionals, through a fun blend of hands-on activities. The curriculum is built specifically for this age group, with a mix of activities from coding puzzles and board games to easy-to-use, drag-and-drop programming tools. Wu Shu means “martial arts” in Chinese, and has its origins in China for thousands of years.  Wu Shu is the current national sport in China and the many styles of traditional Wushu have been standardized into a unified curriculum within the last century.  Jet Li, Jackie Chan & Donnie Yen are some of the most high profile Wushu practitioners seen in Hollywood. HCCS Wushu classes will emphasize the learning of martial arts movement without contact or fighting and focus on improving strength, coordination, focus & confidence in each student.  ​
Wushu classes will cover:

2) Wushu Basics
3) Introductory Wushu Forms
4) Exercise & Conditioning
5) Martial Arts Ethics

This course is designed for learners with little or no background in Chinese to gain a basic knowledge of standard Mandarin Chinese, including reading Pinyin and some basic conversations. The textbook will be Kuaile Hanyu #1, the textbook materials will be provided. This course will help students gain a rudimentary understanding of standard Putonghua with an emphasis on listening and speaking. Class offered by Instructor Biyao Zhang (Native Mandarin speaker, Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics.)

Course Description: This course offers those with some basic knowledge (Pinyin) of Chinese an opportunity to learn useful everyday conversations in Mandarin. The difficulty level will be the same as the conversation course in the fall, with different topics. There will be vocabulary learning and conversation practice in each class. It is also designed for those parents whose children are studying in a Chinese immersion setting to learn some simple Chinese to communicate with their children. This course will help the participants properly engage initial contacts, enjoy basic social interactions, and gain confidence to communicate in various situations such as meeting people, ordering Chinese food, shopping etc. Instructor: Biyao Zhang (Native Mandarin speaker, Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics.)

During the Marine Engineering classes, students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine several types of marine based devices and vehicles. Students construct working prototypes that teach and reinforce the concepts of above water transportation, underwater exploration, and harnessing the power of water. They gain exposure to careers in naval, ocean, and marine engineering as well as naval architecture.

BeginnersLevel One: Basics Students will learn the basic controls of the game such as how to move, mine, build, craft, and defend. Depending on the session students will learn how to build basic structures such as houses or castles. Students will also be able to join with other classmates in a fun and safe environment where they can learn to work together to accomplish a task.

Level Two: Redstone Students will learn how to further their crafting expertise and also how to farm in minecraft. Also students in this session will also learn how to build basic circuits using the included redstone Mechanics of minecraft. Students will also be able to join with other classmates in a fun and safe environment where they can learn to work together to accomplish a task.

Advance
Level Three: NPC Creation Students will learn how to interact with and even build their own custom NPC (Non-player characters. Students in this session will program and create a NPC using an ingame feature to make a character of their design. Students will also be able to join with other classmates in a fun and safe environment where they can learn to work together to accomplish a task.

Level Four: Minecraft Mod Design: Students will learn how to build and interact with a mod of their creation. They will program and create textures for their mod and can keep the mod for later to show their friends! Students will also be able to join with other classmates in a fun and safe environment where they can learn to work together to accomplish a task.
