At Hope Chinese Charter School, our volunteers bring energy, care, and heart to everything they do. From helping in classrooms to serving lunch in the kitchen, their presence strengthens our community and enriches every student’s experience.
This year, we asked our volunteers to tell us one reason they show up, week after week. We put up a sign that said, “I volunteer because…” and asked them to write their answer on a sticky note. Here is what they said!

“I want to be present for my kids and the community.” – L.K.
Family presence and building community is a very common sentiment among our volunteers. So is teacher support and modeling values.
“I value teaching my children how to contribute to fostering community.”
Volunteer opportunities are a helpful connection point for families joining Hope for the first time. Many families do not speak Chinese at home and/or they may be curious about what our language immersion program looks like day-to-day.
“I want to learn about the school community and also have fun with other parents.” – A.F.
Seasoned volunteers said they return because they enjoy experiencing and contributing to the positive environment.
“I love seeing the kids thrive together!”
“It’s fun to be part of the action!”
These reflections remind us that Hope thrives because families show up for all children, not just their own. The heart of our community and culture isn’t set by policies or programs. It’s shaped by the people who show up, connect, and contribute.
To all of our volunteers, thank you!
