Curriculum

We believe that strong literacy skills – reading, writing, speaking, listening – in both Chinese and English are essential in developing academically strong, self-motivated, and globally fluent students. Working in teams, our Chinese and English educators synchronize their lessons to ensure students receive consistent instruction across their classes.

Chinese Immersion

HCCS develops our own spiral performance-based Chinese immersion curriculum that builds students’ language abilities through routine practice in language functions (e.g. storytelling, debate, conversation, etc). To implement our Chinese curriculum, our educators incorporate resources from the Huanle Huoban textbook series and Level Learning.

English Language Arts

Amplify CKLA is used for Kindergarten to 5th grade. This curriculum is based on the science of reading, which includes best practices for teaching reading and writing that integrates science and social studies knowledge units.

Math

Math is taught in both English and Chinese, using the Singapore Math curriculum known for its intentional progression and rigor. Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, students will use the Dimensions K-5 Curriculum that includes built-in differentiation support and is the most rigorous series offered by Singapore Math.

Science

Science is taught in both languages. Typically the Chinese science class conducts hands-on experiments twice a week while the vocabulary and concepts are reinforced in the English science class. Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, HCCS will implement a more robust science curriculum that meets state standards and was thoroughly evaluated and selected by our teaching teams.

Student Support

We offer support for English Language Learners, Talented and Gifted students, and implement a Multi-Tiered System of Support for whole child learning.

Testing

We use variety of standardized assessments to measure student progress.
