HOPE CHINESE CHARTER SCHOOL BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The HCCS Board of Directors is looking to recruit candidates to fill upcoming vacancies for two-year terms starting July 2026. We are seeking candidates who desire to foster global citizenship through education. Serving on the Board is an opportunity to support and contribute to the success of HCCS school leaders, teachers & staff, and students. Board member time commitment is estimated to be 15-30 hours per month on average.

The Board responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Uphold the school’s mission, vision, and values
  • Participate in strategic planning to support long-term sustainability
  • Review, update, and align school policies with evolving educational needs, best practices, and requirements set forth by the Oregon Department of Education and Beaverton School District
  • Provide leadership oversight by supporting and evaluating the school leader, collaborating with HCCS leadership to set strategic goals for growth and development, and fostering a positive, inclusive school culture
  • Review and approve the annual budget, monitor adherence, oversee financial health, and fulfill fiduciary duties by maintaining a clear understanding of HCCS’s financial condition
  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, ethical standards, accountability requirements, and all charter obligations
  • Commit time through Board – attending the monthly board meeting, actively engaging in major fundraising, and participating in staff and community outreach events
  • Board members are expected to serve in an executive role (chair or secretary) on one committee and serve on a second committee as a general member
  • Provide financial support as able and help raise at least $3,000 annually through direct contributions, matches, sponsorships, active gala participation, or in-kind donations
  • Serve as ambassadors, advocating for the school and building trust with families and stakeholders

We welcome an application from anyone who feels passionate about being an ambassador in the community and articulating the School’s mission and goals to the public. The Board would benefit from candidates with experience in Education (preferably elementary education), Finance/Accounting, Fundraising, Legal, Commercial Real Estate, and Business (Marketing, Human Resources, Program Development). We encourage applicants from marginalized groups including BIPOC, LGBTQ, learning disabled, and lower socioeconomic status, in order to widen the variety of perspectives represented on the Board.

Interested candidates can apply by submitting this form.

Applications will be accepted now, and rolling interviews through the end of March 2026. Interviews will be scheduled during governance committee meetings and final recommendations will be made to the board in April 2026.

Nominate someone who you think would be a great addition to the Board by emailing [email protected].
