Hope Students Shine at National Chinese Language Competition

We are so excited to celebrate two amazing students from our school, Audrey Mai and Tori Howard! On May 24, they were flown to San Francisco to represent Oregon at the 2025 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency & Talent Competition, hosted by the Chinese Consulate General. Principal Mi and Yitong Wu were also able to attend the event to show their support for our students, cheer them on, and connect with other contestants, families, and educators from across the country.

Audrey, a 3rd grader, and Tori, an 8th grader, were the top students in Oregon and received a special invitation to compete at this national event. The “Chinese Bridge” Competition is the highest-level Mandarin contest for non-native speakers in the United States.

This year’s theme was “Flying High with China.”

Both Audrey and Tori gave thoughtful and inspiring speeches about the topic. They were also scored on their talent performances, a written test on Chinese culture and history, and interviews with a panel of judges.

We are so pleased to share that Audrey won 1st place in the elementary school category! She impressed everyone with her clear speech, confidence, and great Chinese skills.

Tori earned 2nd place in the secondary school category, which included both middle school and high school students. That is an amazing accomplishment!

These awards are a significant achievement. Audrey and Tori worked very hard, even coming in before and after school to practice, and it really showed. They used what they’ve learned through our Mandarin immersion program to do something truly special. They also showed their love for the language and Chinese culture in a fun and creative way.

We’re in awe not only of their big wins, but of the positive attitude and dedication they brought to this experience. They remind us how far students can go when they are supported by their teachers, families, and school community.

Congratulations to Audrey and Tori!

You have made Hope Chinese Charter School proud, and we can’t wait to see what you do next.
